Manifesto

What is a Creative Director?

The answer has never been fixed, and perhaps it never should be. Long before the title existed, the role did.

Leonardo da Vinci may have been the first.

At its core, creative direction is about origin.
About giving form to meaning.

A Creative Director is the heart of a project, the one who defines its personality, perspective, and reason for being. Whether shaping a brand, a product, a space, or a story, the role is not to decorate, but to construct DNA. To decide why something exists before deciding how it looks.

Creative direction operates across industries and disciplines—design, fashion, automotive, publishing, entertainment,

not because it lacks focus, but because it requires range. It demands intuition and structure, instinct and rigor. Curiosity balanced with a cultivated network of makers, thinkers, and doers. An ability to sense the zeitgeist before it fully arrives.

That instinct—what some call “the eye”—is not something you are born with. It is developed. Through mentors and mistakes. Through books, films, rituals, travel, nature, and obsession. Often through influences far outside one’s formal discipline. It is precisely why I believed a small-town French kid from Le Mans could become one.

Growing up immersed in motorsport culture, engineering, and endurance racing, I learned early that beauty is inseparable from function—and that emotion is inseparable from performance. Over time, this evolved into a practice that blends automotive heritage, industrial design, art, and storytelling into cohesive, meaningful experiences.

Today, my work sits at the intersection of culture, luxury, and engineering. I collaborate with brands, manufacturers, and institutions to create objects and narratives that feel timeless yet forward-looking—projects rooted in history, yet designed for what comes next.

Creative direction, to me, is not about trends.
It is about coherence.
About vision.

That is the work.
That is the responsibility.
And that is why the role still matters.
